Finally!

When we decided what book to read I went right to my local library to get it. They didn't have it, go figure, so I decided to use inter-library loan. After two and a half weeks there was still no book to read so I took matters into my own hands!
I started to look into the library in Idaho Falls for some way of getting a library card. First, I tried to pretend that I had just moved into the area. That means you need a utility bill with your name and address. Um... don't have one. Or your drivers license with your address. Again, not available. Next, I borrowed a friends library card. I went to her house, promised to take good care of the card, and went to the library just to see them locking the doors! So not fun. I even hunted down my library card from Rexburg in hopes of going there. Again I didn't make it in time.
I did find out that I can get an Idaho Falls Library card with a two book limit if I have a utilities bill with my name on it. Well, I was in the process of waiting for mail with my name on it when the book I wanted finally arrived! They had to barrow from Twin Falls. Twin Falls!? That is almost two hours away! And the whole time this same book was sitting in the Idaho Falls library, fifteen minutes up the road, and I couldn't get it. How crazy is that!
So I have started the book and am on page 13. I really like how he is talking about the differences between America and Italy. His comment about the sirens is completely true! I remember hearing the ambulance sirens in Germany and thinking that they were off key and needed to be tuned. The toilets are different in Europe as well, and the tiny fridge reminded me of all of the missionary apartment's. I think there was only one apartment that had a fridge as tall as I was. I really enjoyed his experience with the food market! I had a similar one when I first showed up in a different country. It also involved a language panic attack! So far I really like this book.;)

  1. I'm glad you finally got it!
We had the two-button toilet in China as well. It's what they considered a "Western" toilet; all the other toilets were squaters. And the tiny refrigerator. And no oven, lol. There are so many things that we take for granted here in America.
