I am still reading Four Seasons In Rome. I really like it! I have also taken matters into my own hands and am hoping to have an Idaho Falls library card in a few days which will enable me to get a book I can renue. I have also been put in as the head of a relief society study group. We are reading The Bonds That Make Us Free together. Well, one of us will read chunks of the book and present it to the others. I did the first chunk and think I may have to do the rest of the book! Oops! LOL. I really did enjoy the discussion we had on it though.
Off the book topic for a second. The washing machine broke the other day. Before Shay and I freaked out and got a new one Shay said he wanted to try to fix it. I said "Go for it, honey!" It took a few days to get the parts but he did fix it! His hott hubby points went up so high!
I have been thinking of starting a small business. Just something small I could do at craft fairs. It woul mostly be burp clothes, baby shoes, baby hats, hair bows, hooded towels, hooter hiders, totos, and maybe Mommy-baby matching aprons. I would do a lot of crocheting and knitting but I think it might be nice. If no one buys anything then guess what everyone will get for Christmas! Let me know what you think.
Good to hear from you; sorry I hadn't checked this in a few days (and sorry I haven't posted much, lol). Good luck with getting the IF library card.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome about your washing machine. I bet it was a relief not to have to get a new one, and it's such a mach thing for hubbies to be able to fix stuff like that. :-)
As far as your business goes, I've often considered the same thing. I actually had a bunch of jewelry stock put together to do a booth at the 4th of July celebration in Rexburg a couple years ago, but then we went out of town instead. I've been giving the jewelry out as gifts ever since, lol. One of the big problems is finding a market for your things. Some of the bracelets I make we'd sell for $65 or more at the store in New Hampshire (a small resort town), but I doubt I could have gotten more than $20 for them in Rexburg--if I could have sold them at all. I have friends who do Etsy stores online, but again, drawing business to your site is the problem. They just advertise on Facebook all the time, but then you're pretty much just selling to your friends.
I think craft shows would be a lot of fun, but you have to make enough to cover the costs of the booth. My mom and I did a booth at a show once, selling hats, scarves, some cool Thai wrap pants, jewelry, and some other random things. We had fun, but we barely made enough to cover the cost of the booth.
I say go for it and try it, though. As you said, whatever doesn't sell will make great gifts!
